Professional Journey
Kormanik trained as a mechanical engineer at Kettering University. He held management positions at Falk Corporation, Service Heat Treating and Construction Forms, Inc. before joining Zero Zone.
Zero Zone was incorporated in June 1961 by three refrigeration specialists, who started in a rented dairy barn in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. It now has its headquarters in North Prairie. It runs two divisions. The display case division builds refrigerated and frozen cases in Wisconsin. The systems division makes commercial and industrial refrigeration systems in Ramsey, Minnesota and Dyersville, Iowa, and grew out of the company’s 2002 acquisition of Systematic Refrigeration.
Kormanik joined more than a decade before 2022. He first ran the display case division as vice president and general manager, then became executive vice president of operations for both divisions. On 1 March 2022 the company split the top job between two long-serving insiders when David Morrow retired: Kormanik became chief executive and Dan O’Brien, a sales and engineering veteran of more than 25 years, became president. Kormanik said the new team would continue Morrow’s legacy of “protecting and preserving the freshness of food and pharmaceuticals throughout North and South America.”
Under his leadership Zero Zone has added capacity. In 2023 it completed a 183,200-square-foot warehouse in Mukwonago, Wisconsin, which takes finished display cases from the plants and ships them to grocery, convenience, dollar and drug stores. “Our customers are growing, and we are proud to grow alongside them,” Kormanik said at the opening. The company then added 57,000 square feet to the Ramsey systems plant, including two production lines, double the loading capacity and a pressure-testing area. In September 2025 it launched a Services Division that combines field service, warranty, training and engineering support, as part of what the company calls a five-year growth plan.
