Executive Summary

David Wolpa is Chief Revenue Officer at AiDASH, a San Jose company that points satellites at infrastructure. Its software combines satellite imagery with machine learning to tell electric utilities where vegetation is encroaching on power lines, where storm damage is likely, and how their assets are performing across territories too large to inspect by hand — the category it originally named intelligent vegetation management, now extended into wider operations, maintenance and sustainability reporting. Wolpa’s role is to sell that into a conservative, heavily regulated buyer base and to expand it geographically. His credibility with that audience comes from having been on the other side of it: before he ever carried a revenue number he was an electrical engineer, first at NASA working on International Space Station systems, then inside a large investor-owned utility.

Career Highlights

  • Appointed Chief Revenue Officer of AiDASH in August 2023, tasked with expansion into the European Union, Australia and New Zealand and across product lines beyond intelligent vegetation management.
  • Joined at a point when AiDASH’s electric utility customer base had grown from 30 to more than 100 in a single year, with annual recurring revenue projected to more than double for the third consecutive year.
  • Grew revenue by 130 percent as Vice President of Revenue and Business Development at Gecko Robotics.
  • Delivered 25x territory revenue growth at Uplight as Vice President of Sales and Enterprise Solutions, as part of the company’s initial go-to-market team.
  • Started his career as an electrical engineer at NASA/Boeing on robotics and life support systems for the International Space Station.
  • Moved into utility operations through Pacific Gas and Electric’s leadership rotation programme, running large technology project implementations.

Professional Journey

Wolpa trained as an electrical engineer at the University of Texas at Austin and started work at NASA, employed through Boeing, on robotics and life support systems for the International Space Station. He has described that first job as the origin of a consistent preference for problems with large societal consequences — a framing that has held across every subsequent move, all of which have been in energy, utilities or industrial infrastructure.

From aerospace he moved to Pacific Gas and Electric, entering through the utility’s leadership rotation programme and managing large technology project implementations. That period gave him the operator’s view of a utility: the procurement cycles, the regulatory constraints, the reasons a good technology can still take three years to deploy. He took an MBA at the University of Michigan around this transition from engineering into commercial leadership.

His first major revenue role was at Uplight, the customer-facing energy technology platform used by utilities for demand management and customer programmes, where he was Vice President of Sales and Enterprise Solutions and part of the founding go-to-market team. Territory revenue grew 25-fold during his tenure. He then joined Gecko Robotics as Vice President of Revenue and Business Development — a company that inspects industrial assets with wall-climbing robots and turns the readings into an asset integrity data platform, again selling into power generation and heavy industry. Revenue grew 130 percent under his leadership there.

AiDASH recruited him as Chief Revenue Officer in August 2023. The company was growing fast and needed to broaden both geographically and by product: beyond North American vegetation management into Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and beyond a single category into a wider operations and sustainability suite. Three years on he remains in the role and continues to front the company publicly, including moderating utility panels at the company’s own Evolve conference in 2026.
