Professional Journey
Murray earned a BS in finance from Penn State University and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and qualified as a certified public accountant, a licence he now holds as inactive. His early internet-era work was in search: he led international finance and accounting for Overture Services, and for Yahoo! after it acquired Overture in 2003, during the period when the international search business grew rapidly.
He then became a chief financial officer at consumer internet companies that were being built to sell. He was CFO of Academy123, acquired by Discovery Communications in 2006, and of Fandango, acquired by Comcast in 2007. He stayed in Comcast’s digital operations afterwards, as Senior Vice President of Comcast Interactive Media overseeing strategy, business development and finance for its digital properties, with further senior finance roles at Comcast Digital Entertainment and NBCUniversal Media.
From 2011 to 2014 he was CFO of Machinima, and he then joined Dollar Shave Club as CFO. There he worked on the company’s economics ahead of its sale to Unilever for $1 billion, which closed in August 2017.
His connection to CreatorIQ began in 2014, when he joined the board of the company, then called SocialEdge, in its founding year; Allen DeBevoise, Machinima’s co-founder and former chairman, was among its early investors. In April 2018 he moved from the board into the business as president, with responsibility for its growth strategy and its expansion in the US and abroad. CreatorIQ has since grown through acquisition, adding influencer analytics platform Tribe Dynamics in 2021, and through a change of leadership: after a period under interim CEO Jon Namnath, in July 2024 the company hired Chris Harrington, formerly of Omniture and Adobe, as chief executive. Murray is now listed as President and Chief Financial Officer, second on the company’s leadership team.
Alongside CreatorIQ he is a venture partner at Calibrate Ventures.
