Professional Journey

Barry, a Minnesota native, started her career as an auditor at Deloitte & Touche. She joined Best Buy in 1999 and held financial and operational roles both in the field and at the corporate office. By 2010 she was Vice President of Finance for the Home Customer Solutions Group. She then became Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Business Development for the Home Business Group, and in 2013 Senior Vice President of Domestic Finance.

From 2015 she moved beyond finance, serving as Chief Strategic Growth Officer and, for a time, interim President of Best Buy’s services organization. She became Chief Financial Officer in 2016 and added the title of Strategic Transformation Officer in 2018. In that combined role she oversaw strategic transformation and growth, digital and technology, global finance, investor relations, enterprise risk and compliance, integration management and Best Buy Health. Best Buy says she played a critical role in developing and executing its Building the New Blue growth strategy.

She became CEO in June 2019 and joined the board the same month. Best Buy’s 2026 proxy statement credits her with leading the execution of its growth strategy, including the In-Home Consultation program, the rebuilt membership offerings, the expansion of the Best Buy Ads retail media business and the launch of a new online Best Buy Marketplace. The company reported more than $41 billion in revenue for fiscal 2026.

On 22 April 2026 Best Buy announced its CEO succession plan. According to her Best Buy biography, after seven years as CEO and 27 with the company, she decided it was the right time to hand over leadership. The board chose Jason Bonfig, a Best Buy merchant since 1999, to succeed her effective 1 November 2026. Barry will leave the CEO role and the board at the end of 31 October. Best Buy said the two would work closely on the transition and that she will serve as a strategic advisor for six months after stepping down. Board chair David Kenny credited her with guiding the company through “some of the most tumultuous and uncertain times we have ever seen.”

She has served on the board of Domino’s Pizza since July 2018, where she chairs the Compensation and Human Capital Committee. In July 2026 Domino’s independent directors elected her Lead Independent Director.
