Carol Tomé has been Chief Executive Officer of United Parcel Service, the Atlanta-based package delivery and logistics company, since June 2020. Professional Journey

Tomé studied communication at the University of Wyoming and took an MBA at the University of Denver. She began her career in 1981 as a commercial lender at United Bank of Denver, now part of Wells Fargo, and stayed for 11 years. From 1992 to 1995 she was Director of Banking at Johns-Manville, the insulation and building products manufacturer.

She joined The Home Depot in 1995 as Vice President and Treasurer, became Senior Vice President, Finance and Treasurer in 1999, and was named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 2001. She held that role until August 2019. According to UPS’s filings, her responsibilities as CFO included financial reporting, planning and analysis, internal audit, investor relations, tax, strategy and business development, IT and cybersecurity, as well as real estate and financial services.

She joined the UPS board in 2003. In March 2020 the board announced that she would succeed David P. Abney as Chief Executive Officer on June 1, 2020. At the same time the board separated the roles of chair and chief executive, and independent director William R. Johnson became Board Chair. UPS’s proxy statement credits her with improving the profitability of its business-to-business segment through automation and distribution network changes, and with managing complex labour union negotiations.

From early 2025, UPS deliberately reduced the volume it carried for Amazon and reconfigured its network accordingly. In its second-quarter 2026 results, Tomé thanked employees for completing the “Amazon glide down and related network reconfiguration initiatives as designed” over the previous 18 months. The company reported consolidated revenue of $22.8 billion for the quarter.

Outside UPS, she has been a director of Verizon Communications since 2021. She served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta from 2008 to 2013 and chaired it from 2010 to 2012. She is an Executive Committee member of the Atlanta Committee for Progress and a former board member of Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation.
