Professional Journey
Gerry earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics at Colgate University, a master’s in political science at Yale University and a law degree at Yale Law School. He clerked at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court and practiced at Goodwin Procter in Boston.
In government he served as an associate counsel to the President on national security and intelligence matters and, at the Justice Department, as chief of staff to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, acting assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Policy, and a deputy assistant attorney general in the newly created National Security Division.
He joined Boeing in 2008 as chief counsel to the Network and Space Systems business and in 2009 became vice president and general counsel of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. From February 2016 to May 2019 he was president of Boeing Japan in Tokyo, responsible for Boeing’s strategy, partnerships and government affairs there, and served on the board of governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
He returned as senior vice president and general counsel in May 2019 and became chief legal officer and executive vice president, global compliance in May 2020. He is a trustee of the Museum of Flight in Seattle, sits on an industry advisory board at the University of Washington School of Law and has taught as an adjunct law professor at Georgetown and the University of Washington. Boeing builds commercial airplanes and defense, space and security systems and provides aerospace services, and employs about 182,000 people, according to the company.
