Professional Journey
Schmidt earned a bachelor’s degree at Mary Baldwin University and an MBA at the University of Chicago. She joined Boeing in 2005 and held communications roles at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, leading supply chain and operations communications, covering Boeing South Carolina, Boeing Fabrication and joint ventures, and then international and sales communications, with responsibility for the company’s public relations agencies worldwide and global sales campaigns.
From January 2013 to September 2016 she was director of executive and employee communications at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. In October 2016 she became director of Executive Council business operations and chief of staff to Boeing’s chief executive, a role she held until January 2021.
She then became vice president of corporate communications and, from December 2022, vice president of corporate communications and employee engagement, covering engineering, product safety, finance, strategy and employee and executive communications, while again serving as chief of staff to the president and chief executive.
In August 2024 she became interim chief communications officer and in December 2024 senior vice president and chief communications and brand officer, with a seat on the Executive Council. Boeing builds commercial airplanes and defense, space and security systems and provides aerospace services, and employs about 182,000 people, according to the company.
Her remit spans the communications of all three Boeing businesses, commercial airplanes, defense, space and security, and global services, as well as media relations, external affairs, employee communications and branding. She took the permanent role after four months as interim chief communications officer, having earlier served as chief of staff to Boeing’s chief executive for more than four years.
