Professional Journey

Clever Devices began in the early 1980s as the Hi Ho Doorbell Company on Long Island, took the Clever Devices name by 1988, and turned to public transit after the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, starting with automated stop announcements for bus drivers. It grew into a supplier of intelligent transportation systems to transit agencies of every size; by the time of its sale, Hitachi Rail said it served eight of the ten largest transit agencies in North America, employed more than 600 people, and projected 2026 revenue above $220 million.

Stanton was the company’s Chief Operating Officer by January 2024. That month Clever Devices announced it had secured an allocation of clean hydropower through the New York Power Authority’s ReCharge NY program, in exchange for committing to invest $5.7 million in IT systems, test systems, software tools and office equipment at its Woodbury headquarters by 2031 and to add 50 jobs over seven years. Stanton, who announced the commitment, said the money would go mainly to expanding computing capacity by a quarter, and that “our business forecast calls for sustained growth over the next several years.”

On 1 July 2026 Hitachi Rail completed its acquisition of Clever Devices as part of its push into digital, multi-modal public transport, and the business was integrated with MAIOR as Hitachi Mobility Multimodal Solutions. Frank Antonysamy became chief executive. Stanton continues as Chief Operating Officer on the executive team, alongside General Counsel Julie Friedlander, Chief Strategy Officer Michael Elgarten, Chief International Operations Officer Monica Malhotra and Chief Product and Marketing Officer Joe Saporita.
