Professional Journey

Fong began her career on the buy side, in procurement and supply chain roles at Hewlett Packard and at Sonoco Products Company, the packaging manufacturer. Working inside large buying organisations gave her direct experience of category management, supplier negotiation, and the operational realities of a source-to-pay process, and it is the foundation she returns to in her advisory work.

She moved from operating roles into consulting at Archstone Consulting, and subsequently to The Hackett Group, where she became an Associate Principal and Program Leader within the Procurement and P2P Advisory practice. At Hackett her focus shifted from executing procurement to benchmarking and codifying it: she led research and membership programmes built around the characteristics of world-class procurement organisations, work that put her in regular contact with chief procurement officers across a wide range of industries.

She joined Everest Group as a Partner to build out the firm’s coverage for sourcing leaders, and now heads its sourcing and vendor management practice. Everest Group’s own positioning is as an analyst and advisory firm for global services, and Fong’s remit covers the buyer side of that market: how enterprises should select providers, what a healthy provider relationship looks like, how vendor management offices should be resourced and governed, and what the arrival of generative AI does to both service pricing and service scope.
