Executive Summary

Alex Baydin founded PerformLine in 2007 and led it as chief executive for eighteen years before moving to the board in January 2026. PerformLine sells automated marketing-compliance monitoring: software that continuously crawls the marketing and customer-facing communications a regulated brand and its partners put out — web pages, call recordings, emails, social posts, affiliate promotions — and flags the ones that breach regulation or brand policy. The problem Baydin set out to solve came from the other side of that fence. He had spent his career in performance marketing and lead generation, and he founded the company because, as PerformLine tells it, he “saw a need for better optics into the quality and compliance of leads and calls.” Banks, lenders and other financial-services firms are liable for what their marketing partners say on their behalf, and until PerformLine there was no systematic way to see it. He remains a board member and, by the company’s account, closely involved in the business.

Career Highlights

  • Founded PerformLine in 2007 and served as chief executive for eighteen years.
  • Handed the chief executive role to Chris Calhoun in January 2026 and moved to the board, remaining engaged in the business.
  • Created COMPLY in 2015, billed as the first conference devoted specifically to marketing compliance.
  • Built the company in a category adjacent to his own prior industry — performance marketing and lead generation — where he had seen the compliance gap first-hand.
  • Earlier held business-development leadership at United Online and ran search-marketing sales and publisher partnerships at Quigo Technologies, the contextual advertising company AOL acquired in 2007.
  • Runner-up for LeadsCouncil Executive of the Year, 2015; guest lecturer on entrepreneurship at Columbia University.

Professional Journey

Baydin began his career in sales at Bloomberg before moving into internet advertising. At United Online he was Senior Director of Business Development. He then joined Quigo Technologies, a contextual cost-per-click and search-marketing company, where he first ran the search-engine-marketing sales team and then led partnership work, negotiating exclusive arrangements with large publishers. Quigo was acquired by AOL in 2007, the same year Baydin started PerformLine.

That sequence matters for understanding the company. Baydin was not a compliance professional who noticed a software opportunity; he was an advertising operator who had watched regulated brands lose control of what was being said in their name by affiliates, lead vendors and call centres several steps removed from them. PerformLine was built to make that layer visible. The platform monitors marketing assets and customer communications at scale and surfaces potential violations for remediation — the company states it has helped clients uncover and resolve billions of potential issues.

Baydin also worked on the category rather than just the product. In 2015 he launched COMPLY, positioned as the first conference dedicated to marketing compliance, giving the discipline a meeting place and PerformLine a position at its centre. The same year he was runner-up for LeadsCouncil Executive of the Year. He has spoken at LeadsCon and the TARGUSinfo Summit, appeared at Money20/20 in 2023 on compliance and banking efficiency, and has guest lectured on entrepreneurship at Columbia University.

On 5 January 2026 PerformLine announced that Chris Calhoun — previously CEO, Americas at Treasury Intelligence Solutions, and before that chairman and chief executive of Scivantage — would take over as chief executive, with additional investment from M33 Growth directed at the company’s AI product expansion. Baydin’s own statement framed it as a scaling decision: he said he and the board believed Calhoun’s experience scaling SaaS businesses in highly regulated industries made him the right person for the next chapter. Baydin moved to the board, where he continues.
