Professional Journey

Busch trained as an electrical engineer at the University of Ghent, where he earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. He then took a second master’s, in industrial management, at the Catholic University of Leuven. In 1991 he joined NV Bekaert SA and held management roles there for seventeen years.

He moved to Datacolor in 2008 and became Chief Executive Officer in January 2009. Datacolor has been in color management for more than fifty years. Its customers include textile and apparel makers, paint and coatings producers, plastics and automotive suppliers, and photographers and designers, who are served by its Spyder product line. Brands and manufacturers use its instruments and software to specify a color and reproduce it the same way across suppliers and continents. The holding company, Datacolor AG, is based in Rotkreuz, Switzerland, and its U.S. subsidiary, Datacolor Inc., is in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The group sells in more than 100 countries. In fiscal 2022/23 net sales were USD 93.2 million. Datacolor’s own account of his first decade credits him with revenue growth of more than 75%, an EBITDA margin that moved from -1% to +12%, and a large improvement in the cash position and share price between 2009 and 2019.

For most of his tenure Datacolor was listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, with Werner Dubach as controlling shareholder. In July 2023 Dubach announced a public tender offer at CHF 760 per share. After it settled in October he and those acting with him held 99.31%, and he began court proceedings to cancel the remaining shares. The court decision became final in April 2024, Dubach took 100% ownership, and the shares were delisted on April 19, 2024. Busch stayed on as CEO of the privately held company.

Datacolor has continued to add businesses. In May 2023 it bought matchmycolor GmbH, and in January 2025 it announced the acquisition of TECHKON GmbH, a Königstein, Germany maker of color measurement instruments for printing and packaging. Busch called the deal “an important next step in Datacolor’s growth strategy”. The company’s team page now lists him as President and Chief Executive Officer.
